Furniture is a type of moveable item in Stardew Valley. Furniture typically describes items that can be placed inside the home or other buildings as decoration but offer no other benefits, such as a table, chair, or pot of flowers. Most furniture can also be placed outside, with the exception of only a handful of items that can only be placed in the Farmhouse or Shed. Players are able to get into beds and sit in chairs, couches, benches, and armchairs.
Furniture cannot be gifted or sold in a Shipping Bin.
Obtaining Furniture[]
Initially, furniture can be purchased at the Carpenter's Shop from Robin, or at the Traveling Cart from its merchant. Prices will items will vary at the Traveling cart but not at Robins, though from both sources only a random selection of furniture is provided each day. When the Farmhouse is upgraded furniture can be purchased through the Furniture Catalogue for 0g each but only after the catalogue is placed (it cannot be used when stored or kept in inventory).
Placing or Moving Furniture[]
After a player selects a piece of furniture from the toolbar Inventory, a green square appears on tiles where it can be placed. The square will turn red if a place is hovered where the furniture cannot be placed. Right-clicking will place furniture in an available spot if there is enough room for it. Right-click is also used to rotate furniture or pick some furniture up, though other furniture requires the use of a tool to move, or holding left-click to pick it up once placed.
Furniture cannot be placed in a Shipping Bin to sell or sold to any shop or merchant.
Important: Furniture placed outside the farm will be destroyed if it is placed in the Walking Path of a villager.
Types of Furniture[]
Chairs[]
Most chairs are available for purchase from the Traveling Cart or Furniture Catalogue except for the Crystal Chair (requires donation of 41 Minerals to the Museum) and the Tropical Chair (requires trading of 1 Lionfish to the Island Trader). Chairs may be placed outside if desired.
Tables[]
Tables (including tea and end tables) may be used to place items on for display or decoration purposes or may be placed outside. Placing items on smaller tables can be accomplished by right-clicking on the table while holding the item to place. Placing items on larger tables may require the player to stand closer to the center before right-clicking to place the held item on it.
The Winter End Table and Winter Dining Table can be purchased at the Festival of Ice and the Festive Dining Table can be purchased at the Feast of the Winter Star.
Some tables are longer than others, including the Modern Dining Table, Mahogany Dining Table, Festive Dining Table, and the Winter Dining Table.
Armchairs & Couches[]
Amchairs and Couches cannot be placed outside. The Large Brown Couch cannot be purchased at the Traveling Cart or Furniture Catalogue, it must be purchased instead at the Oasis on Sundays.
Beds[]
The player's farm comes eqipped with a single bed that changes into a double after an upgrade. There are two bed types, one for adults and one for children. A player can only sleep in an adult bed, and beds can only be placed in the farm house where players sleep (they cannot be placed outside or in other buildings).
Bookcases & Dressers[]
Bookcases are purely decorative, and neither bookcases nor dressers may be placed outside. Dressers may be used to store Clothing items, such as shirts, pants/skirts, shoes, and hats. Rings may also be stored in a dresser.
Rugs & Floor Dividers[]
Rugs are not placable outside and though only 3 rugs may be purchased at the Traveling Cart (Dark Rug, Patchwork Rug, and Red Rug), other rugs can be purchased at various Festivals and via the . Only a couple of rugs are exclusive to Penny's 14-heart event (Fruit Salad Rug and Pirate Rug).
Floor Dividers which can be placed on floors similarly to rugs, can only be obtained via the Furniture Catalogue.
Fireplaces[]
Fireplaces are sold in the Furniture Catalog but are not sold at the Traveling Cart, and they cannot be placed outside. Fireplaces may be turned on or off for deorative effect (once placed) by right-clicking on them.
TVs[]
Televisions cannot be placed outside and may be purchased from the Furniture Catalogue (they are not available from the Traveling Cart), though players recieve a Budget TV with if on farm creation they selected the Standard Farm or the 4 Corners Farm. All other farms come with the Floor TV.
Lamps & Windows[]
Most lamps can be purchased at Traveling Cart with the exception of the Candle Lamp and Ornate Lamp. Windows must be purchased using the Furniture Catalogue with the exception of the Ornate Window (purchased at the Feast of the Winter Star). Neither lamps nor windows may be placed outside.
Benches[]
Benches may be placed outside if desired.
Plants (Decorative)[]
Plants come in different types including Houseplants, Freestanding, Hanging or Seasonal, each of which (except for hanging) can be placed outside. Most plants can be purchased from the Furniture Catalogue though some are only available at certain locations or festivals.
Paintings[]
Most paintings may be obtained via the Furniture Catalogue, though some are available only via donation rewards from the Museum, from heart events, at the Night Market or Casino, or from Fishing. Since paintings require indoor walls for hanging, they cannot be place outside.
Movie Posters[]
Movie Posters are not available in the Furniture Catalogue or other purchasing areas, they can only be obtained by playing the Crane Game located inside the Movie Theater. The poster that appears in the game is random and only occurs when its movie is playing in the Movie Theatre. Since movie posters require indoor walls to be hung, they cannot be placed outside.
Banners[]
Banners can be purchased only at the various Festivals and cannot be placed outside.
Wall Hangings[]
Wall hangings require indoor walls to hand, so they cannot be placed outside. They can be obtained from various places such as JojaMart, Carpenter's Shop, Movie Theatre (Crane Game), friendship heart events, and fishing.
Fish Tanks[]
Most fish tanks are purchasable from the Fish Shop or Furniture Catalogue with the exception of the Aquatic Sanctuary (purchased from Qi's Walnut Room only). Fish Tanks are indoor items only, they cannot be placed outside.
Other/Misc. Items[]
Other and miscellaneous items may be available for purchase from the Traveling Cart, Furniture Catalogue, Carpenter's Shop, at Festivals.

There are 2 catalogues available for purchase the (wallpaper, flooring) Catalogue or the Furniture Catalogue.
