Foraging is the act of gathering Resources in Stardew Valley. The players' ability to forage will be measured as a skill.

Actual forage areas smaller and spotted about the town, usually the paths in-between places outside the main square. The fields south of the Farm and between Marnie's Ranch and the Wizard Tower is the only large foraging area.

One of the missing books at the Library it is advised to clear the ground of other foliage to increase wild plant growth. It implies if you keep the areas clear of sticks, rocks, and weeds it should enable more wild plants to grow there. Trees may or may not be a factor but keep it healthy will probably ensure you have a steady supply of lumber/sap.
