Alex is a NPC and one of the twelve marriage candidates who lives in Stardew Valley.

Alex loves sports, specifically "gridball", and hanging out at the beach. He is quite arrogant and brags to everyone that he is going to be a professional athlete. He believes studying is for "nerds". Alex often works out in the men’s locker room or in his room. And in the summer, he works at the ice cream stand. Eventually when the player becomes friends with him, he seems to warm up the player and stops bragging as much. He admits to the player that he loves his grandmother so much, but jokes that he doesn't love his grandfather as much. He is good friends with Haley.

Two Hearts

Alex greets the player and comments that he's enjoying the great weather they're having. He'll throw his football to the player, which they miserably fail to catch. He laughs and tells them that it was a "nice try". He goes on to tell the player he's sure that he's going to become the first pro grid ballplayer from Stardew Valley. The player can then choose between two responses:

• "I believe in you!" : Alex thanks the player for their support and says that he'll remember it.
• "Wow, you're really arrogant." : Alex gets angry and says the player is just jealous, then he leaves.

Three Hearts

Alex is next to the dog pen near his home. He's talking to the dog, whose name is revealed as Dusty. He comments both he and the dog have been through a lot and that he feels misunderstood. The player's character will come out from behind the Saloon. Alex asks if they heard any of that. The player then has two options:

• "Yes, I heard everything."
• "Not really...why?"

Both responses lead to him revealing more about what he was talking about. He tells the player that the reason he lives with his grandparents is because of his dad. His dad was a drunk and would often say abusive things to Alex. One day his dad left, and shortly after his mother got sick and died. Alex then goes on to say that he shouldn't dwell on it and doesn't need sympathy. At the end of the cutscene, he gives Dusty a steak.

Five Hearts

Alex will be standing in front of his bookcase thinking about how he's never opened one of the books. He then calls himself worthless. The player have three choices.

• "That's crazy. You're a genius!" no change in friendship points, Alex says "No I'm not. You just try to flatter me!"
• "We all have our strengths and weaknesses." +50 friendship points, Alex says 'Yeah, I guess you are right. Well, I'm not going to give up!' and tells a joke about going to get dinner.
• "Worthless? Yeah, that about sums it up." -50 friendship points, Alex says, "Thanks for telling me the truth." and reacts sadly.

Six Hearts

Go into Alex's house when he usually works out, and a cutscene will trigger. He doubts himself, thinking he might not be good enough to be a professional Gridball player. He then apologizes for having no shirt and acting arrogant and when he and the player first met, and that he's trying to become better.

There are no choices in this event.

Eight Hearts

During Summer on a sunny day, visit the beach between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM to trigger the event.

Alex is sitting on the beach crying. The player approaches him and sits down next to him. He says today is the day his mother died 12 years ago. He regrets not being able to say "thank you" to her for taking care of him when he was a kid. The only keepsake he has left is his mother's music box. Alex opens it and plays it for both of them. As the music plays, the player will see a vision of Alex's mother happily cradling baby Alex in her arms. As the music fades, he asks what the player is thinking thinking.

• "Honor your mother's memory by doing your best every day." Alex agrees and says that's why he's working so hard to be a professional grid ballplayer.
• "You shouldn't dwell on the past."
• "I'll always be here for you if you get lonely." Alex thanks the player and bashfully says you're his best friend in the whole town.
• "You need to get over it. Life is tough."

After calming down, he says the two of them should head back to town. Before the player leaves, he nervously asks them not to tell anyone that he was crying. The player laughs and walks off while he hurriedly chases after them.

Ten Hearts

Alex asks the player on a dinner date. During the dinner (if you are male), Alex will say that he had a crush on the player ever since they moved in, but he denied his feelings for them otherwise. Alex says he thought the player was cute and says that when he has a crush the feeling goes away quickly but for them, it kept growing. The player has the option to tell him you have the same feelings, or that you don't like him in that way.

• "I feel the same way." Alex is elated that both of them were finally able to admit their feelings to each other. He happily digs into his steak. Dusty suddenly bursts through the window, salivating at the smell of food.
• "I'm sorry... I don't feel that way about you." Alex is crushed and apologizes for making the player uncomfortable. He loses his appetite.

Marriage

Go to the beach on a rainy day to find the mariner. Talk to the mariner and purchase the mermaid's necklace. After the player gives it to Alex, he will accept it and agree to the marriage. Marriage will occur three days later regardless of the season.
